Abstract

Deafness, expecially in the industrialized countries, is a very relevant and widespread phenomenon; we just report the fact that deafness is the fourth invalidant permanent desease for man (by Hearing International). We have then to consider that things for deaf people get even worse when they have to communicate using the telephone.

The goal of the thesis was to achieve a digital elaboration of the telephone signal able to get a better intelligibleness of the speak signal for people who can't normally hear.

This experimental work relied on an Analog Devices ADSP2181 Digital Signal Processor platform, with input and output audio interfaces.
